Wi-Temp
Temperature monitoring and analytics
Wireless monitoring of temperatures of processes and machines can help operations and maintenance staff direct their attention to where it is needed most. Wi-Temp provides hardware variants to suit all needs - Wi-Temp IR, Wi-Temp PRT and Wi-Temp Insulation.
With the Trend Software and Data Platform, Wi-Temp alerts and guides staff to anomalous operating behaviour while providing full details of the data measured. Configure alarms to alert staff of problems based on your knowledge of operating conditions or allow our system to dynamically calculate suggested thresholds.
Wi-Temp can be assisted with optional Wi-Ambient sensors for improved, rapid anomaly detection.

Adaptable monitoring and alerting
Wi-Temp provides affordable temperature measurements. With the integrated Trend Software and Data Platform, alarm thresholds can be used to identify abnormal operating behaviour. Trend provides default dynamic thresholds based on the operating trends of your system, and can effectively identify anomalies without user input required. Alternatively, the software can be fully configured based on known normal operating conditions.
Absolute temperature values have traditionally been used as thresholds in temperature monitoring, but a more fine-tuned system for detecting early machine health problems is possible by also measuring ambient temperature. By accounting for environmental conditions, confidence in measurements increases and latency before an alert is triggered can be reduced.
3-Sci therefore optionally supplies Wi-Ambient, a solution that independently measures the ambient temperature. The Trend Software and Data Platform then uses the ambient temperature data to configure more fine-tuned alarm thresholds.
Flexible and reliable solution
Sensors are easy to install and reposition within minutes. A flexible set of mounting mechanisms are provided, including clamp-on, magnetic and adhesive options for all possible installations.
Temperature data is transmitted over the most secure, reliable, self-organising wireless network available, WirelessHART, proven in cluttered industrial environments. The Trend Software and Data Platform will automatically recognise new sensors on its connected networks for easy expansion and support for small or large scale deployments. Cellular and cloud networking can be provided if desired by the user.
Wi-Temp units are autonomously powered and demonstrate a 10+ year battery life under normal operating conditions. Batteries can be replaced easily at any time on a live plant.

Environmental temperature measurementWi-Temp AI (available in 2024)
A further development in the Wi-Temp suite is the integration of Artificial Intelligence Machine Learning within the Trend Software and Data Platform. Upon installation, the Wi-Temp AI creates a baseline model of the temperature behaviour under normal operating conditions without any need for human assistance. Then after a few days of data collection, the AI platform will assign a severity score to any temperature anomaly and will wirelessly transmit the data to the Trend Software and Data Platform and notify the operator.
In-house experts with first-hand knowledge of the plant can then further increase the effectiveness of the AI by viewing the anomalous temperature plots and by tagging those anomalous plots with a descriptive tag e.g. ‘lubrication problem’ or ‘fan issue’. Anomalous temperature behaviour tagged in this way enhances the diagnostic and predictive capabilities of the Wi-Temp system. The system therefore enables the transfer of knowledge from experienced technicians whilst enabling prompt detection of breakdowns and failures.
